Warm Red Gold
Pure gold is 24 carats, but it is very soft and therefore unsuitable for jewelry and watch cases. The addition of silver, cadmium, and zinc increases the hardness and durability of gold. At Wempe, we use only 18-karat gold alloys - also known as 750 gold because of its 75% gold content. Depending on the proportion of different metals in the alloy, different shades of gold are created, i.e. yellow, red or rose gold. The warm radiance of a piece of jewelry in red gold is obtained by adding copper and silver to the alloy. The more copper there is in the alloy, the more intense the warm red tone will be.
