Radiant White Gold
Pure gold is 24 carats, but it is very soft and therefore unsuitable for jewelry and watch cases. The addition of silver, cadmium, and zinc increases the hardness and durability of gold. At Wempe, we use only 18-karat gold alloys - also known as 750 gold because of its 75% gold content. Depending on the proportion of different metals in the alloy, different shades of gold are created. Radiant white gold was developed in the German "gold town" of Pforzheim around 1912 and gets its distinctive silver-white color from the addition of silver, nickel, platinum or palladium.
