Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso—from the Polo Field into the Spotlight
Often thought to be dead, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso is considered an enduring icon of Swiss watchmaking. The highlight of the models in this line is the rectangular reversible case, which was originally invented in 1933 for polo players who wanted to wear their watch on the field and protect it from knocks. In order to protect their watches, a case was designed that meant that the players could simply flip the dial over. The name of the watch line is thus somewhat self-explanatory, as Reverso is a Latin word that means “I turn”. With its Art Decó design, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso went on to conquer the world of watch connoisseurs shortly after its release and even managed to survive difficult times.
The Secret on the Back of a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso
In the early days, the back of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso was always made of a smooth metal plate, which made the case resistant to knocks and blows. It wasn't long before the watches began to feature engravings on the back and these are popular today, too. You can add an engraving and make your Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso completely unique. In the Jaeger-LeCoultre Classic Duoface, there is also a second dial that can be used to display a second time zone.
From quartz movements to classic hand-wound movements, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso line features a wide range of calibers. The same applies to the case material and bracelet—you can choose models with classic cases in white gold and rose gold, a bracelet in black alligator or smooth leather or modern styles made entirely of stainless steel or more sporty styles with colored calfskin straps.
