Wempe Chronometerwerke: Traditional High-Precision Instruments
Originally developed for the shipping industry, chronometers are known for being exceptionally precise timepieces and as such, they represent the epitome of the highest form of watchmaking. Wempe has been producing these precision instruments at the Chronometerwerke in Hamburg since the 1940s. The Wempe Chronometerwerke wristwatch line pays homage to this tradition-rich production.
The Characteristics of Wempe Chronometerwerke Watches
Wempe Chronometerwerke watches have round or tonneau-shaped cases and are known for showcasing the characteristic features of Saxon precision watchmaking: a three-quarter plate, ruby bearings in screwed gold chatons, a typical sunburst finish on the ratchet wheel and a hand-engraved balance cock. The range of calibers used inside Wempe Chronometerwerke watches are also exceptional. In the CW2 caliber, a constantly rotating tourbillon compensates for possible gravity errors to ensure the watch runs precisely at all time. Since 2012, the models have been fitted with an impressive and specially constructed hand-wound movement, and a power reserve indicator, the Caliber CW3. CW4 is the fourth manufactory caliber from Wempe Glashütte i/SA, it's brand's first self-winding movement and is especially impressive thanks to its high running time of at least 92 hours. Wempe Chronometerwerke models also feature date displays as well as a stop-second function which you can use to set the exact time.
